We scholars of ancient Iranian culture and history would like to add our voice to that of the people of Iran and in particular Iranian women who have been demanding their most fundamental rights. We salute their bravery and condemn in the strongest terms the brutal repression and killing of the young protesters. The world is watching. The citizens of democratic countries cannot be indifferent to the campaign of terror that the Islamic regime has unleashed against the youth of Iran. Basic rights such as the choice of dress and freedom of expression are inviolable and absolute. We ask the democratic governments to take effective measures in supporting Iranian citizens in their aspiration for democracy. zan, zendegi, azadi!
