The citizens of Zahedan once again became victims of the unrestrained violence of the Islamic Republic of Iran officers. On Friday, 30 September 2022, in response to several teenagers protesting in front of the police station near the city's prayer hall, the forces of the special unit (Yegan Vizheh), who were already stationed at the police station, shot at them.
Citizens returning from prayer were targeted by bullets that were shot directly into their heads and hearts. As of 5 October 2022, the recorded number of victims has been 88 dead and more than 300 injured. (Campaign of Baluch Activists) One of those killed on Bloody Friday was a teenager named Matin Ghanbarzehi Gargij, from the Shirabad neighborhood.
The military forces also attacked the women's section of the prayer hall and threw 23 tear gasses at the worshipers, which led to the suffocation and death of one woman. In the tense days after Bloody Friday, military vehicles randomly drive around the city and shoot at protesting people.
Undoubtedly, the civilian citizens of Zahedan have become the victims of a tragedy in the ranks of war crimes. The perpetrators must be identified and tried. We ask the international legal and judicial institutions to investigate this crime and convict its perpetrators.
