My name is Fatemeh Khoshroo, and I am a survivor of political imprisonment in the Islamic Republic of Iran. My ordeal began with my arrest during the protests on November 16, 2019, in Khorramabad. Initially detained in the local women's ward for 18 days, I was then transferred to the notorious Evin prison in Tehran.
During my 34-day solitary confinement, I endured relentless interrogations accompanied by physical abuse, including being struck with fists, kicks, and batons, and even subjected to electric shock torture. Coerced under duress, I made multiple forced confessions on camera.
My release on bail was abrupt and without trial. However, my struggle for justice and safety did not end there. In November 2020, the Islamic Revolution Court in Khorramabad convicted me in absentia. The charges included "preparing and sending videos of illegal riots to certain anti-regime entities in Turkey," alleged communication with opposition groups, and evasion of court proceedings. This resulted in a one-year imprisonment sentence.
Since my relocation to Turkey, my life has been overshadowed by the persistent threats and harassment from the agents of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against both myself and my family back in Iran. This intimidation has forced me into a life of concealment, marked by financial hardship and ongoing mental and emotional distress.
Through this petition, I am reaching out to international human rights organizations, seeking urgent intervention. My plea is for assistance in securing asylum in a third country, which would offer me a chance to rebuild my life in safety, away from the constant fear of abduction or worse by agents of the Islamic Republic. Your support in this matter is not just a gesture of solidarity but could very well be a lifesaver.
Sincerely, Fatemeh Khoshro
