We urgently call for the release of Ahmad Fahim Azimi, Seddiqullah Afghan, and Manizha Seddiqi, who have been unjustly arrested, subjected to torture, and incarcerated by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. Their detention stems from unfounded allegations due to their courageous advocacy for the educational rights of women and girls, challenging the oppressive edicts of the Islamist Taliban rule.
Manizha Seddiqi, an active member of the Spontaneous Movement of Afghan Women, was apprehended on October 9, 2023, in Karta Nu, Kabul, and subsequently incarcerated in Pul-e-Charkhi prison. Ahmad Fahim Azimi and Seddiqullah Afghan, affiliates of the Fekr Behtar organization, were detained at their office in Karta Char on October 17, 2023. After 72 days of interrogation, they were relocated to Pul-e-Charkhi prison, deprived of legal representation.
The health of Manizha Seddiqi has deteriorated significantly, with prison officials denying her essential medical care, further exacerbating her dire situation.
The detention of these committed activists contravenes universally recognized international laws and norms.
This petition transcends a mere appeal to the Taliban for humanitarian consideration, given their notorious history of opposition to women's rights. Instead, we stand united as a vocal representation of Afghanistan's citizenry and global advocates for freedom, signaling to oppressive regimes our collective resolve against tyranny. We endeavor to assure all champions of liberty that they are not isolated in their struggle.
We fervently hope for the prompt liberation of all individuals detained for their political beliefs and ideologies.
In solidarity,
