To the Iranshahr University of Medical Sciences, Imam Ali Hospital, Chabahar, and the Minister of Health of the Islamic Republic of Iran:
We are writing to express our profound concern and distress over the tragic death of Jamila (Anissa) Jedgal, a 32-year-old pregnant mother, at Imam Ali Hospital, Chabahar, on Thursday, April 4, 2024. This incident highlights the critical and alarming state of medical services in Sistan and Baluchistan province, particularly in Chabahar.
The loss of Anissa Jedgal, who was expecting twins, represents not only an instance of medical malpractice but also indicates a broader, systemic failure in the provision of medical services in the region. Her case is among several in the past year where individuals have died due to medical malpractice, negligence, and a lack of sufficient medical and healthcare facilities.
The details of Anissa Jedgal’s demise point to the negligence and incompetence of the medical staff at Imam Ali Chabahar Hospital. Despite clear symptoms and internal bleeding due to an unsecured main uterine artery, the hospital staff overlooked Anissa’s critical condition, leading to her subsequent unconsciousness and death. This disregard for patient care, especially for pregnant mothers, is intolerable and necessitates immediate attention and action.
We demand justice for the untimely death of this young mother and call for prioritizing the safety and well-being of patients to prevent further tragedies caused by medical negligence at Imam Ali Chabahar Hospital. The recurrent deaths of pregnant Baluch mothers in Chabahar underscore a deeply rooted discrimination within the medical system, which fails to protect and care for all individuals, irrespective of their ethnic or social background.
As citizens of Baluchistan, we urge the Iranshahr University of Medical Sciences, Imam Ali Chabahar Hospital, the Minister of Health, and all relevant bodies to:
Conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into Anissa Jedgal’s death and the deaths of other pregnant mothers in Chabahar over the past year.
Hold accountable and apply appropriate disciplinary actions against the officials, doctors, and medical personnel responsible for Anissa Jedgal’s death.
Implement immediate actions to rectify the systemic problems affecting medical care in Baluchistan and Chabahar, including enhancing medical facilities, improving medical staff training, and establishing robust patient care protocols.
Provide support and compensation to the families of victims who have suffered due to the inadequacies of the medical system.
We stand in solidarity with the victims’ families and demand justice for Anissa Jedgal and all those who have perished due to the deficiencies of the medical system in Balochistan, particularly in Chabahar.

This tragedy was not an accident but systematic neglect and negligence towards the state of treatment and medical facilities in Baluchistan.
