We are deeply concerned about Benjamin Koohkan, a 17-year-old Baluch teenager who was arrested by Iranian police on January 6, 2023, during the "Women, Life, Freedom" uprising and has been held in custody since.
The prosecutor of Sistan and Baluchistan Province accused Benjamin of "premeditated murder and armed robbery" without any evidence. This accusation carries the risk of the death penalty. Reports suggest Benjamin Koohkan has been tortured for a forced confession and attempted suicide due to severe abuse at Zahedan Children's Center.
According to reports, Benjamin's family members, including his father Hamidreza Koohkan, mother Mrs. Naroui, and brothers Elias and Idris, have also been arrested and mistreated. Mrs. Naroui's release depends on her husband's confession of cooperating with Iranian opposition groups.
We demand Benjamin Koohkan be treated according to human rights standards, with access to legal representation, a fair trial, and protection from abuse. We also call for the immediate release of his family and an end to their harassment.
We urge the international community and human rights organizations to monitor Baluchistan's prisons closely and hold Iranian authorities accountable for Benjamin Koohkan's and other political prisoners' well-being.
Benjamin is in danger of being executed.
