Ismail Garami, a retired worker, has been incarcerated in the central prison of Greater Tehran (Fashafouye) for more than 9 months. The Tehran Revolutionary Court first sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment, 74 lashes and a fine of two million tomans, then with a reduced sentence of 4 years. Ismail Garami's "crime" is defending the trade union rights of retirees!
Ismail Garami is a retired carton factory worker. He has been angered by the security forces just for participating in the gatherings of retirees and following up on the demand for increased insurance and insurance.
In a letter from prison dated December 27, 2021, Ismail Garami writes, "Where in the world would a 66-year-old retired person with epilepsy, prostate, back pain, and consecutive toothaches be found guilty just for protesting the non-payment of his salary and participating in rallies?" and will be sentenced to prison?"
Fashafouriye prison , which was built for criminals, is famous for overcrowding and polluted and unhygienic atmosphere. In this large prison, the quality of food is extremely poor, there is no hot water for bathing, and the prisoners have to buy their own drinking water. Fashafuye prisoners have no immunity against infectious diseases. In addition to the unfairness of the court order, the health and life of this retired worker is in danger.
Asking for salary increase and participating in legal gatherings are not considered crimes. We, the signatories of this petition, demand the cancellation of Ismail Garami's unjust prison sentence and his immediate release. Be the voice of Ismail.
